The Healing Power of Your Hands

Believe it or not, your health is in your hands! Our hands are particularly blessed with virtues of wellness. The four fingers and the thumb represent the five major building blocks or the ‘Panchamahabhootas’ of which the entire universe is made viz. Sky (Ether), Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

How To Do:

Peacefully sit in a lotus posture and keep your hand on knee then touch thumb tip with your index finger tip and keep the remaining three fingers free like straight or close.


This gyan hand mudra helps to relax your mind and improves the ability to concentrate better.

It keeps brain power sharp and smart.

It can cure insomnia (inability to sleep).

Regular practice can keep you stress relief and depression.

It helps in meditation and concentration and reduces negativity of the mind.

With regular practice students can improve grades and intelligence.

It aids in alleviating hypertension and reduces anger.

Enhances knowledge, stimulates the pituitary and endocrine glands.

Practice: Any time while sitting, standing or lying in bed.

How To Do:

Fold your index finger towards palm show like above image and the press with the base of thumb. And rest of the three fingers keep extend as much as possible.


This yoga mudra eliminates excessive gas from your body

It can gives relief in problems associated with the air element such as: Flatulence, constipation, cervical spondylitis, arthritis etc.

By the practice of this mudra, all vayu ,that is, air related affections, like Arthritis, Gout, Sciatica, Knee pain, and Gas are relieved. It especially benefits in neck pain and spinal pain.

Helps to calm an anxious mind, soothe a strained voice and can help decrease stress. Can also help reduce impatience and indecisiveness.

Practice: 10 to 15 minutes, 3 times per day.

How To Do:

First of all you touch the tip of your ring finger with tip of thumb and then pressing the both fingers with each other then kept the remaining fingers extended out.


This mudra gesture balances the element Earth in your body.

It improves body weight, blood circulation, digestive power and vitamin deficiency associated problems.

Regular practice of this Mudra is helpful in body weakness, thinness and also obesity.

It improves the functioning of the digestive system and reduces the deficiency of vitamins.

It gives energy and luster to the body.

Reduces physical and spiritual weaknesses, can increase the life force, can help clear skin and promotes body functionality.

Practice: Any time.

How To Do:

This mudra is related to fire element in your body. Close the ring finger towards palm and press second phalanx with thumb base and rest of the fingers keep extend outside like straight. Do it on early morning with empty stomach for best results. Who are suffering from acidity doesn’t do this Agni mudra.


It helps to reduce the levels of Cholesterol in the body, reduces fats, improves metabolism and boosts the immune system.

It assists in melting the additional fat increasing metabolism and reins obesity.

Speed up digestion.

Get better body strength.

Decreases stress and tension.

Reins high cholesterol levels.

Practice: Keep this mudra for at least fifteen minutes each day.

How To Do:

This is very simple to follow and basic yoga mudra also. Simply touch the little finger tips with tip of thumb and don’t press the fingers and then keep rest of the fingers straight like shown above picture. The preferable position is sitting with cross-legged.


It improves blood circulation, reduces body aches.

It helps in bringing back taste sensations and helps in reducing dryness of mouth.

It reduces dryness of the skin and improves skin luster and softness.

It is useful in skin diseases, acne and blood defects. It improves facial beauty.

Varun Mudra equilibriums the water substance in our body.

It makes active fluid passage within the body observance it moisturized always.

Helps to balance emotions and helps to retain water. Helps to relieve constipation and cramps. Can also help regulate menstrual cycles and hormonal conditions.

Practice: 15 minutes three times a day.

How To Do:

The tip of the thumb presses the middle finger down while the rest of the fingers stand straight up.


It is helpful in ENT (Ear, Nose and Tongue) problems, vertigo and motion sickness.

It balances the body, reduces body weight and obesity. It increases body heat and helps indigestion.

It reduces hypertension and cholesterol and builds strength.

It is beneficial in diabetes and liver defects.

Reduces dullness in the body and can also be highly effective for ear aches. Can help restore confidence and boost mental cognition.

Practice: 40-60 minutes daily or for an earache- 4 to 5 minutes.

How To Do:

The ring and pinky finger both bend to meet the thumb while the index and middle finger remain pointed straight up.


It makes you feel more energetic and helps boost the body’s immunity, too.

This can prevent tiredness

Cure the eye problems and increase eye power.

It awakens the dormant power of prana, gives energy, health. It is beneficial in diseases of the eye and improves eyesight, raises body resistance to disease, reduces deficiency of vitamins, removes tiredness.

During fasting it reduces hunger pangs and thirst.

In insomnia, doing this hand posture, along with Gyan Mudra, helps in bringing on sleep.

Improves the life force, helps to strengthen the mind, body and spirit, helps promote taking action and improves immunity and motivation. Helps enhance vision and reduces fatigue.

Practice: Any time.
