rani Lakshmi Bai

Rani Lakshmi Bai was born on 19 November 1828 at Poona. Her real name was Manikarnika. Rani Lakshmi bai father Moropant Tabme was a court advisor. Her mother Bhagirathi was a scholarly woman. At a very early age she lost her mother. Rani Lakshmi bai father raised her in an unconventional way. He supported her to learn to ride elephants and horses. He teaches her to use weapons effectively. Rani Lakshmi Bai was one of the leading warriors of the India's first struggle for independence. She grew up with Nana Sahib and Tatya Tope. They were active participants in the first revolt of independence.

Rani Lakshmi Bai got married to Raja Gangadhar Rao who was the Maharaja of Jhansi in 1842.  After marriage, she came to be known as Lakshmi Bai. In 1851, Rani Lakshmi bai gave birth to a son but unfortunately he died in his fourth month. After this incident, Damodar Rao was adopted by the Maharaja of Jhansi as his son.  On 21 November 1853 her husband and son died so she moved. When Rani Lakshmi Bai was just eighteen years old the Maharaja died. But she didn't lose her courage and took up her responsibility.

That time India’s Governor-General is Lord Dalhousie. He was a clever person. He wants to take profit of the misfortune of Jhansi to expand the British Empire. The little Damodar Rao is not accepted by the British rulers as the presumptive heir of Rani Lakshmi Bai and Late Maharaja Gangadhar Rao. The plan of British rulers was to prove that Jhansi don’t have any presumptive heir. The British ruler’s offers to Rani Lakshmi Bai 60,000 annual pension and says leave the Jhansi fort. But Rani Lakshmi Bai refused to accept the offer. 

Rani Lakshmi Bai assembled an army for save the Jhansi from the British rulers. She includes women also in army.  For her this active she supported by brave king of India’s like Dost Khan, Deewan Raghunath Singh, Gulam Gaus Khan, Moti Bai, Lala Bhau Bakshi and Kashi Bai. Rani Lakshmi Bai organised an army for the defence of the city.

The British rulers attacked on Jhansi fort in 1858. Rani Lakshmi Bai and her army fight to front of British rulers. This war is continued for about two weeks. Rani Lakshmi Bai and his army face the British rulers with very boldly. Rani Lakshmi Bai was very strong she tied her son on her back and faced the British rulers boldly. She was using two swords in both her hands. She escaped to the fortress of Kalpi under the cover of darkness and was accompanied by many other rebellions. She departed to Gwalior and a fierce battle was fought between the British and the Rani's army. On the unfortunate day of 17 June of 1858, this great warrior martyred her life for India's freedom.
