Introduction

Guru Gobind Singh Ji is also acknowledged as Gobind Rai was born on 22nd December 1966. He was the main pundit guru of the Sikh society and the eleventh guru is recognised as Guru Granth Saheb. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the warrior, composer and thinker. He flourished his father Guru Tej Bahadur as the leader of Sikh community at a very young age. At the age of 9 he added a lot to the Sikh community, prominent contribution was the continuous solemnization of belief and conviction to the Sikh community which was originated by Guru Nanak as a religion Sikh in 15th century.

History of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti (Gurupurab)

Gobind Singh was the tenth of the Sikh Gurus. Following the death of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Gobind Singh became the leader of the Sikhs when he was only nine years old.

Famed as a warrior, poet and philosopher. His contributions to Sikhism were many including the tradition of covering one's hair with a turban.

He initiated the Khalsa order, the highest order that can reached by Sikhs. Khalsa must abide by four restrictions; not to disturb the natural growth of the hairs, not to eating meat slaughtered in halal manner, not cohabiting with a person other than one's spouse and not using tobacco or a hookah.

Guru Gobind Singh died on 7 October 1708 from wounds inflicted by an assassin.

Guru Gobind Singh was the last of the living Sikh Gurus, as while he was on his death bed, he passed the Guruship of the Sikhs to the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred Book of the Sikhs. The Granth Sahib then became the Eleventh and Eternal Sikh Guru.

How to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti (Gurupurab)

Guru Gobind Singh Ji birthday is a day of Feast also known as Gurpurab is one of the festival in Sikh community. It is a spiritual festival in which the prayer is offered in the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

It is long festival taken place in most of the north city. The large procession takes place outside golden temple in Amritsar people share sweets and cold drinks during the march. At some places special gathering and prayers are perform in Gurudwara.

Stories in form of recitation is mainly sung by the gurus in Gurudwara special meal is prepared in Gurudwara known as Gurupurab in which roti, dal, sabzi and salad is served as Prasad to all the members visiting in Gurudwara.
