Gangaur Festival

Gangaur is a vastly important festival of Rajasthan. It on the day following Holi and continues for 18 days. The festival is celebrated by womenfolk with great enthusiasm and devotion for Gauri, the wife of Lord Shiva. While married lady worship Gauri, the personation of perfection and conjugal love for the success of their married life, unmarried women worship the Goddess for being blessed with good husband.

Rituals of Gangaur Festival:

The first important ritual of the colorful festival of Gangaur is the collection of ashes from the Holi fire and inter of wheat and barley seeds in it. These seeds are the religiously watered every day until the Germination takes place. The ritual is performed with songs of Isar and Gauri (Shiva and Parvati) and the varying of pots of water on the head.

Gangaur Melas are being held throughout the 18-day period. Numerous folklore is associated with Gangaur, which makes this festival deeply ingrained into the hearts of Rajasthan. On the last day of the festival, early in the morning, women folk will dress up, sing, and carry water and grass in pots.

 Also, a local sweet dish called a ghewar is featuring of the Gangaur festival.

How celebrate is gangaur in Jaipur

In Jaipur, on the last day of the festival, at an auspicious hour in the afternoon, a procession will take with the images of Isar and Gauri placed on the heads of married women. Songs will be sung about the departure of Gauri with the consignment of the all images in waters to end Gangaur festival.

Gangaur festival of Jaipur is renowned in all over the world. On the last of celebrations, a procession, with the image of Gauri, commences from the Zanani-Deodhi of the City Palace. It then passes through Tripolia Bazaar, Chhoti Chaupar, Gangauri Bazaar, Chaugan stadium and finally converges near the Talkatora. People from all walks of life come to witness the procession.
