Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most popular and famous India festivals. It is celebrated in schools and colleges, shops and offices. Hindus also inspection it at home and perform this Puja with great devotion. He is worshipped by the people always before starting any new work in any field. This festival is especially celebrated in the state of Maharashtra however now-a-days started celebrating in almost all states. It is a most important festival of Hindu religion. People worship the God of knowledge and prosperity on Ganesha Chaturthi with full devotion and trust.

People belief that Ganesha comes every year with lots happiness and prosperity and goes after removing all the sufferings. This festival starts on Chaturthi in the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada (August or September) and ends on 11th day on Anant Chaturdashi. Worship Ganesha is of great importance in Hinduism.

How is celebrated Ganesh chaturthi?

People take bath in the early morning on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi, wear clean clothes and worship God. They offer many things and pray to God by chanting mantras, aarti song, and devotional songs and perform other rituals of Hindu religion. Earlier, this festival was celebrated only in some families. Later it was started celebrating as a festival with the ritual of idol installation and idol immersion to make a big occasion as well as get free from sufferings.

Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesh was born on Chaturthi tithi (4th day) of Shukla paksha (waxing moon) of Bhadrapada month.  Devotees of Lord Ganesh celebrate his birth day every year on this auspicious day.  On the name of Lord Ganesh, this festival named as Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi.  In Hinduism, Lord Ganesh is worshipped first and then other deities are worship after him.


Rituals and Celebrations related to Ganesh Chaturthi Festival

On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, Jaipurites wake up early in the morning and gather at famous temples of Lord Ganesh such as Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple, to have a view of god Ganesh and get his blessings. There is an architectural practice in India that every house and building has small idol of Lord Ganesh installed on the main gate. Devotees worship this idol of Lord Ganesh at their homes on this good day to get wisdom, prosperity and remove obstacles from their life.

A large auspicious rally of Lord Ganesha is processed next day of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival.  This rally starts from Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple Jaipur and ends at Garh Ganesh Temple Jaipur.  The rally has number of tableaux based on stories related to the life and miracles of Lord Ganesh.  Ganesh chaturthi festival is celebrated at a grand level that one of the largest fair of Jaipur is organized on this auspicious day.

 In this way Ganesha has a great mythological significance and his worship once in the year is also of great significance. Ganesha and Saraswati are specially worshipped by students in the schools and colleges. Students perform puja during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival with great pomp as they believe that Lord Ganesha will remove all obstacles from the path of their life and will bless them with knowledge and wisdom.
