Red Fort (Delhi)

The Red Fort is stands in the mid of Delhi. It was the residence of Mughal emperor for nearly 200 years. It was built by 5th king of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan when he changed his capital Agra to Delhi. It was built in 1648. This Fort is known as Red Fort because in the constructed used red stone and it is the favourite colour of Shan Jahan.

Its constructed started in 1938 and it’s taken 10 years to completed. The total area of Red Fort is 254.67 acres with few kilometres of defence walls. The Red Fort is shaped like an octagon with the north-south axis longer than the east-west axis. Its height is 18 metres (59 ft) on the river side to 33 metres (108 ft) on the city side.

Now the Red Fort is a very important part of India. Every year on Independence Day (15 Aug.) the Prime Minister of India came and run up the national flag. On the account of Independence Day pm give a speech here. This is the most popular tourist place in India. It attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Republic Day is celebrations at the Red Fort. The parade takes place along the 5 kms stretch of the Red Fort that begins from the Raisina Hill end of Rashtrapati Bhavan, continues on to Rajpath, touches upon India Gate and finally reaches the iconic Red Fort.
