KVPY - Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. Eligibility Criteria

Stream SA: Students enrolled in class XI:

Eligibility for appearing: Students should have scored 75% (65% for SC/ST/OBC) in aggregate in Math and Science subjects in class X Board examination.

Eligibility for Scholarship: The scholarship is provided upon joining undergraduate course in basic sciences upon securing minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST/OBC) in science subjects in XII board.

During the interim period, the students are invited to regional/ national science camp with expenses reimbursed.

Stream SX: Students enrolled in class XII:

Eligibility for appearing: Students should have scored 75% (65% for SC/ST/OBC) in aggregate in Math and Science subjects in class X Board examination.

Eligibility for Scholarship: The scholarship is provided upon joining undergraduate course in basic sciences upon securing minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST/OBC) in science subjects in XII board.

Stream SB: Students enrolled in 1st year of undergraduate program:

Eligibility for appearing: Students should have scored 60% (50% for SC/ST/OBC) in aggregate in Math and Science subjects in class XII Board examination.

Eligibility for Scholarship: The scholarship is provided upon joining undergraduate course in basic sciences upon securing minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST/OBC) in 1st-year final exam.

Syllabus

Subjects and curriculum of CBSE and ICSE boards.

Since KVPY written examination is an aptitude test, there is no prescribed syllabus for the exam. The objective of written exam (only in online mode from 2016) is to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student. The questions in the KVPY exam come from 4 subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The KVPY exams test the aptitude and analytical ability of the student. It checks your application oriented knowledge and some conceptual questions will be asked in the KVPY exam.

Selection Process

  • Aptitude Test: After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for  aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country.
  • Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

Reward

The students who qualify KVPY Exam are eligible for the fellowship. The students receive fellowship from 1st year onwards of their graduation. The KVPY fellows receive Rs. 5000 monthly fellowship from 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc/ B.Stat/ B.S./ B.Maths/ Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000. After three years the fellowship is enhanced to Rs.7,000 per month during M.Sc/ 4th & 5th year of Integrated M.S./M.Sc and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 28,000.
