Curd Rice

Ingredients for Curd Rice

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Fresh curd - 2 cup (whisked well)
  • Ghee or oil - 1 to 2 tbsp
  • Green coriander - 2 to 3 tbsp
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Red or black mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 10 to 12
  • Green chilly - 2 finely chopped
  • Salt - 1.5 tsp (to taste)

How to make Curd Rice

Clean rice and soak them in water for half an hour prior cooking. 

For making curd rice, prepare soft rice. Place soaked rice in pressure cooker and add 2.5 cup water into it. Close the pressure cooker with lid and cook until it simmers once. Turn off the flame. After all steam escapes, open the lid and check the rice. Soft rice are ready. Take out rice in any big bowl. 

Take some ghee in a pan. When ghee is hot, add red mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal into it. Keep stirring constantly and saute until urad dal turns brown. Now add curry leaves, green chilly and asafoetida. Tadka for rice is ready. 

When rice cool down a bit, add curd, salt and green coriander into it and mix well. Also, add the tadka and mix all ingredients really well. Scrumptious curd rice are ready, serve steaming hot and relish eating. 


You can also add 2 to 3 whole red chilly in the tadka. If you wish having spicy curd rice then add some red chilly powder in the tadka.
