NSO - National Science Olympiad

National Science Olympiad is one of the most prestigious science Olympiads in Asia. It gives the Science Quotient (SQ), giving their Score, School Rank, City Rank, State Rank, International Rank and Percentile, as well as a Certificate of Participation.SOF also generates a performance report for all participating schools, known as School Science Quotient (SSQ). Eligibility

Students of class-I to class-XII are eligible to participate.

Syllabus

Science and math syllabus as prescribed by CBSE, ICSE or various state boards.

Selection Process

National Science Olympiad is conducted in two levels: Level 1 and & Level 2.

Top 500 international ranks and top 10 state ranks in NSO stage 1 are eligible for level 2 exams

NSO Level 1: The first level of National Science Olympiad is organized in the respective schools of the participants during the school hours.

  • The level 1 competition is a written objective type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35/50 objective type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 12.
  • The question paper consists of Science and Mental Ability section.
  • There are separate question papers for each class.
  • The medium of the test is English.
  • CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus is followed for setting the test papers.
  • The exam is conducted during school hours.

NSO Level 2: The qualifiers of the second round would include the following:

  • Top 5% of candidate’s class wise who appear for the 1st level National Science Olympiad.
  • Due weight age to marks scored in different sections will be given. Each section is accorded separate weight age.
  • Statewide top 10 rank holders were class-wise.
  • Class topper where at least ten students from a class appear in the exam & score 75% qualifying marks.

Reward

NSO 1st Level Exam Awards

  • Gold Medal: Gold medal and Merit Certificates will be given to top ten rank holders from each class.
  • These awards will be given to the winners from 20 Zones/States for their performance in the 1st level Olympiads.

NSO 2nd Level Exam Awards

International Award for Students-To the NSO 2nd Level Winners

  • First Ranker will be awarded with Rs.50,000 each + Gold Medal + Certificate of Outstanding Performance.
  • Second Ranker no. of awards 12, Rs.25,000 each + Silver Medal + Certificate of Outstanding Performance.
  • Third Ranker no. of awards 12, Rs.10,000 each + Bronze Medal + Certificate of Outstanding Performance.

State Award for Students (20 Zones & States)- To the NSO 2nd Level Winners

  • First Ranker no. awards 240, Rs.5,000 each + Gold Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence
  • Second Ranker no. of awards Rs.2,500 each + Silver Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence
  • Third Ranker no. of awards 240, Rs.1,000 each + Bronze Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence
  • 4th to 10th ranker no. of awards 1680, Gift Worth Rs.1000+ Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Zonal Excellence
  • 11th to 25th ranker no. of awards 3600, Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Zonal Excellence
  • All for each participants Participation Certificate
