NSEB - National Standard Examination in Biology

The National Standard Examination in Biology or NSEB is an examination in biology for higher secondary school students in India, usually conducted in the end of November. The examination is organized by the National Association of Biology Teachers in association with Indian Association of Physics Teachers and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). Over 30,000 students, mainly from Standard 12, sit for this examination. Website of NSEB http://www.iapt.org.in/

Eligibility

The examination is intended for students in 12th standard, though 11th standard students are also allowed to give the examination. Usually, the qualifying students are from 12th standard.

Syllabus

The syllabus for National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB) is almost similar as the curriculum of senior secondary level (Class XI and Class XII) of CBSE. However, only basic guideline for the course is mentioned. No detailed syllabus is given for NSEB.

Selection Process

The selection is first made at the school level. And the qualifying students then are then appeared for the national round.

Exam Pattern and Structure

NSEB emphasizes comprehension of the subject, not rote memory. Its format will be as follows:

The question paper is printed in English language. There are total 80 questions in this paper. The total mark carried by this paper is 240. Each question of the paper carries a maximum of 3 marks. All the questions of this paper are compulsory. The questions of this paper are objective type with 4 options in each question of which only one is correct. There is also scheme of negative marking and 1 mark
