IOS - International Olympiad of Science

The International Olympiad of Science is a group of worldwide annual competitions in various areas of science. The competitions are designed for the 4-6 best high school students from each participating country selected through internal National Science Olympiads, with the exception of the IOL, which allows two teams per country, the IOI, which allows two teams from the hosting country, and the IJSO, which is designed for junior secondary students. Early editions of the Olympiads were limited to the Eastern Bloc, but later they gradually spread to other countries. Website of IOS http://www.sofworld.org/

Eligibility

All Indian Students of class-I to class-XII of recognized schools are eligible.

Syllabus

Subjects are more generic and are suitable for CBSE, ICSE and state boards.

Selection Process

STAGE I: An aptitude type of exam is conducted in school level. And the selected students from each class appear for the second exam.

STAGE II: Students selected in school level appear for state level selection exam.

STAGE III: Students selected in state level appear for national and international level exam.

Toppers are announced based on the stage III performance.

Pattern of Exam: There will be two groups in which the examination will be conducted and the question paper will have 5% to 10% questions from 'Applied Science':

For Classes 1-2:

  • Negative Marking: No
  • Duration: 60 minutes.
  • Number of questions: 30
  • Type of Questions: Multiple choice answers

For class 3-10:

  • Negative Marking: No
  • Duration: 60 minutes.
  • Number of questions: 40
  • Type of Questions: Multiple choice answers (on OMR sheet).

Reward

Level 1: The students scoring top rank will compete at the next level and the following prizes will be given in Level 1:

  • Wrist Watch will be given to candidates scoring rank among Top 4-10 ranks.
  • Candidates with ranks between top 11 to 25 ranks will get Exciting Gifts.
  • Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to candidates scoring rank among top 26- 200 ranks.
  • Class Toppers (1st, 2nd and 3rd) from each class of every school will be provided with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals provided that they obtain minimum 50% marks in the Olympiad examination.
  • All candidates participating in the iOS'16 will be provided with Student Participation Certificate with their Class/Olympiad/Rank mentioned on them.

Level 2:

  • A Winner Trophy and Cash prize of Rs.51,000 will be given to the candidates scoring the First rank in class 11 & a Winner Trophy and Cash prize of Rs.1,00,000 will be given to the candidates scoring the first rank in class 12.
  • A TAB along with Winner's Trophy will be given to the students of class 1 to 10 scoring the first rank.
  • A Digicam along with a Winner's Trophy will be given to the candidates who scored Second Rank in the Olympiad Examination.
  • A Cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and a Winner's Trophy will be given to the candidates scoring the Third rank in the Olympiad examination.
  • Topper Achievement Medals & Exciting Prizes will be given to the candidates scoring 1s 2nd & 3rd rank at the State level.

Level 3: An Educational trip to NASA will be offered to Top 2 rank scoring students in the third level of Olympiad Examination.
